What happens when we discover objects that are no longer in a familiar context? Do new worlds open up? In his worksâwhether sculptures, objects, films, or sound installationsâVittorio Santoro explores these kinds of constellations, which he describes as âsculptural situations.â His repertoire of media also includes the written word and language. Each work begins with an idea, a âphenomenon in the worldâ that occupies his mind. This is the first extensive monograph of the artistâs work, and it accompanies the eponymous exhibition at the Kunstmuseum Lucerne. Besides new works and photographs of installations he has had in various galleries and museums in the past fifteen years, this book also contains new essays on Santoroâs video installations and public art interventions, as well as on the material qualities and architectural approach of his art.
VITTORIO SANTORO (*1962, Zurich) divides his time between Zurich and Paris. His conceptual worksâsound installations, sculptures, drawingsâcan be found in many collections, including those at the Kunstmuseum Bern; FNAC, Paris; CAPC, Bordeaux; MusĂ©e national dâArt ModerneâCentre Pompidou, Paris; and the Kunsthaus Zurich. They have been seen at institutions such as the Espace Culturel Louis Vuitton, Paris (2013), the Centre Pompidou, Paris (2012), and Tate Modern, London (2006).
